SP Energy Networks has awarded Linxon a multi-million-pound contract to design substations and procure materials in Scotland, as part of its £12 billion transmission investment programme.

The work covers the Tealing to Kincardine Upgrade Project (TKUP) and connections to Eastern Green Link 4. The announcement also includes transmission infrastructure expansion at Conland, Devonside, Mossmorran and Westfield.

TKUP will increase the operating voltage of overhead lines in Fife from 275 kV to 400 kV. SP Energy Networks’ project plans include replacing conductors and insulators on existing towers, building a new substation at Conland and extending the Mossmorran and Westfield sites.

The extensions will allow new 400 kV transformers and equipment to be installed while existing transformers remain in service, maintaining electricity supplies during the work.

Hitachi Energy will supply SF₆-free EconiQ switchgear, alongside technologies for grid automation, digital substations, monitoring and operational intelligence.

The award is also expected to support dozens of new jobs in Scotland. Linxon’s Glasgow office opened earlier in 2026 and has since grown to approximately twice its original capacity, according to the announcement.
