Alternate Maritime Power, or AMP, is an anti-pollution measure that helps reduce air pollution generated from diesel generators by using shore electric power as a substitute. AMP systems offer a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable approach to powering ships while they are moored in ports. They contribute to global efforts to mitigate climate change, improve air quality, protect human health, and foster environmentally responsible maritime practices.

AMP systems ensure compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements for vessels at berth is also achieved. Additionally, Shore Side Electricity offers fuel cost savings, as onshore electricity may be less expensive than using onboard generators. It can even extend the service life of auxiliary generators, reducing maintenance costs and promoting sustainable machinery use.

That’s why since 2004, Tratos has offered a reliable and robust solution for high-voltage shore connection (HVSC) through its Alternative Marine Power Cables. These cables play a crucial role in supplying ships with electrical power from shore. Known by various terms such as Cold Ironing, Shore Power, Onshore Power Supply (OPS), Shore Side Electricity (SSE), and AMP, they all serve the same purpose of bringing power from the onshore grid to vessels docked in ports globally.

Tratos’ Alternative Marine Power cables- TRATOSMART AMP and TRATOSFLEX AMP– are engineered with internally developed rubber insulations, fillers, and sheaths. This allows them to operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -50ºC to +90ºC. The robust rubber insulations and sheaths provide exceptional abrasion resistance, flexibility, and physical protection. These cables can be found in harbours and ports worldwide, reinforcing their global presence and commitment to providing reliable power solutions to the maritime industry.

With decades of experience in manufacturing specialised cables for demanding applications like the mining industry and flexible power cables for cranes in ports worldwide, Tratos has established itself as a recognised and trusted supplier. Utilising a combination of proven manufacturing techniques and cutting-edge technology, Tratos produces cables with outstanding strength and flexibility. Tratos has the capability to produce cables in accordance with IEC IEEE 80005 standards
and also offers bespoke designs, which include reflective and fluorescent sheaths.
