Prysmian has received the notice to proceed (NTP) for the Cook Strait HVDC Link Upgrade from Transpower New Zealand, marking the full activation of the project’s delivery. It will now be included in Prysmian’s project backlog.

The NTP follows the successful completion of preparation activities, as previously outlined.

The Cook Strait HVDC link is a critical asset for New Zealand’s transmission system, enabling the efficient transfer of energy between the South and North Islands and strengthening the reliability of New Zealand’s national grid.

Raul Gil, Transmission EVP of Prysmian:

The notice to proceed represents a key milestone for the Cook Strait project, enabling Prysmian to move into the full delivery phase of this strategically important interconnection. This project confirms our role as a trusted partner for TSOs worldwide in delivering complex HVDC systems that support energy transition and grid resilience.

This project also underlines that Prysmian can deliver all over the world – and in the most challenging conditions – the installation will not be a simple task – the Cook Strait is one of the most volatile and unpredictable places in the world for extreme weather conditions. We will utilise all our strongest assets and know-how to get the job done with efficiency and the highest quality.
