Prysmian and Relativity Networks have reached a new milestone in the deployment of high-density cable solutions incorporating Relativity Networks’ ChronoCore™ hollow core fibres, successfully completing high-density cable deployment tests in collaboration with Dura-Line, a leading manufacturer of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit solutions.
Testing at Dura-Line’s flagship test facility in Clinton, Tennessee, confirmed the reliable installation of a high-density cable incorporating Relativity Networks’ ChronoCore™ hollow core fibres at jetting speeds of up to 350 ft/min—demonstrating the technology’s readiness of the solution for real-world deployment and marking a meaningful technical step forward for the development of cutting-edge AI optical infrastructure and data centre networks.
Based on Prysmian’s Sirocco™ cable architecture and incorporating Relativity Networks’ ChronoCore™ hollow core fibres, the cable combines Prysmian’s expertise in high-density cable design and manufacturing with Relativity’s breakthrough hollow core fibre technology. The solution delivers the expected optical performance while supporting the development of next-generation low-latency data centre infrastructure.
Srinivas Siripurapu, Chief Innovation and Sustainability Officer of Prysmian:
This milestone comes just 15 months after Prysmian’s partnership with Relativity Networks to industrialise hollow core fibre—and reflects Prysmian’s long-standing leadership in innovation. We worked closely with Relativity Networks and Dura-Line to achieve this important industry milestone, showcasing the scalability and technological readiness of this innovative digital infrastructure.
Rodrigo Amezcua Correa, CTO of Relativity Networks:
A breakthrough fibre technology only matters if it can be manufactured, cabled, and deployed at scale – and this milestone proves that it can. Seeing ChronoCore™ HCF produced and installed while delivering the performance it was designed for – to enable the next generation of distributed AI – marks the transition from innovation to infrastructure. Together, Relativity Networks and Prysmian are accelerating the adoption of hollow core fibre for the low-latency AI and data centre networks of the future.
Prysmian is already scaling production of Relativity Networks’ hollow core fibre, including investments in its Eindhoven facility, while its Claremont, North Carolina plant has successfully manufactured the cable with 24 hollow core fibres in a 10mm diameter cable, meeting customer attenuation requirements. This is an essential step forward for the major US data centre market.
Jason Brabec, Global Director, Field Application Engineering, Dura-Line, added:
Dura-Line has been synonymous with innovation for over 50 years, and our global network of testing facilities positions us as a key partner to those companies pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in optical networking.
About Hollow Core Fibre
In a hollow core fibre, a glass waveguide guides light through an air-filled core. Because the speed of light in air is faster than the speed of light in glass, hollow core fibre transmits data nearly 50% faster than traditional glass communications fibre, minimising latency in time-critical applications.
One specific use case is data centre interconnect, where the transmission speed of traditional glass optical fibres limits the distance between data centres in a synchronised cluster to 60 km. Deployment of hollow core fibre could allow data centre operators to extend that distance to 90 km (56 miles), enabling optimised data centre siting where land, power, and water are all in short supply.
