ADVARIS Cable MES: Enhanced schedule reliability, less capital tie-up

ADVARIS Informationssysteme GmbH has released the latest version of the Detailed Planning & Scheduling Module of its Cable Manufacturing Execution System (MES). It is now possible to read in data of a customer inquiry – such as article number, quantity and desired deadline and from them automatically identify the best possible delivery date. In order to do this, the Detailed Planning & Scheduling Module makes a comparison of the request data with the firm’s current production data. This provides the sales department with a fast, reliable and verifiable basis for confirming the date to the customer.

Another new feature is a special process for dealing with bottlenecks. Potential bottlenecks among the machines are pinpointed and the sequencing of orders is optimized accordingly. This feature cuts setup times to a minimum and enables deadlines to be reliably met. “Every minute of downtime saved at a machine bottleneck counts double. The rest of the factory is planned around this, ensuring that as far as possible machines, where potential bottlenecks may occur, are supplied with the relevant materials just-in-time. This reduces the quantities involved in work-in-process and consequently the capital tie-up”, comments ADVARIS CEO Dr. Manfred Moser, speaking of the new planning aid.

“Bottleneck” planning is complemented by the ADVARIS MRO Module (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul). By initiating preventive maintenance based on continuous condition monitoring of the machines, ADVARIS MRO ensures that the relevant machine is actually operative and available at the specified time.

Another advantage of the Detailed Planning & Scheduling Module: it also now enables production employees’ qualification profiles for operating specific machines and dealing with specific product types to be defined and compared. Once these profiles have been entered, the planning module represents the need for personnel, itemized according to qualification, machine and time period, thus simplifying the deployment of personnel. In this way revision-proof documentation can be provided for every production batch, confirming that only appropriately trained and qualified personnel were used.
