Europe has a new entrant to the fibre laser market in the form of Global fibre technology company “Fujikura”. The initial product offering will be high power pulsed lasers aimed at the engraving market, followed by the release of high power (4kW-6kW) CW lasers towards the end of the year.
Fujikura is an established supplier of fibre lasers in Japan and have been a major player in the fibre optics industry since the early 70’s where they were one of the pioneers of developing manufacturing processes for optical fibres.
Fujikura employs 55000 people in the field of Telecomms, Automotive and electronics. They are one of the worlds’ largest suppliers of Optical Fibres and the biggest supplier of fusion splicers. What is not so well known is that Fujikura has also been a major force in the Optical component business with major advances in technologies such as Optical amplification, Fiber Gratings, Couplers and speciality fibres. Fujikura produces all of these items in house starting right from the preform production. “We make 100% of the optical components within our systems” says Simon Richardson, Head of European Optics. “The quality control is exceptional, all of the key manufacturing processes are performed in Japan with stringent quality checks from start to end. We have 100% control of all manufacturing processes”
Fujikura expanded their technology line up with the acquisition of “Optoenergy” Japans leading supplier of high power semiconductor lasers. Fujikura is one of a very limited number of companies who are able to produce 100% of the key items used within Fibre Lasers.
In addition Fujikura has 70+ unique patents relating to fibre laser technologies. “We are aiming initially at high end applications” says Simon. Our entry point for pulsed laser lasers will be 40W-75W. We will then be releasing our 4kW-6kW CW lasers towards the end of 2016. Both of these systems have been produced in large volumes for Japanese market and we are set to expand into Europe. Both systems have exceptional tolerance to back reflections from highly reflective materials. This is achieved not just through external Isolators, but is inherent to the optical design of the components and the laser cavity. We are aiming for quality and reliability at a competitive price.
